About
FOR TWO NIGHTS ONLY: TIME, SINGAPORE'S FIRST MANDARIN PHYSICAL THEATRE MUSICAL [70 mins]
 1. An evocative devised performance where physical theatre and musical theatre intersects, exploring the theme of time, ambition, and blurred family lines. SINGAPORE - For two nights only in June, SainouSpace co-presents TIME, Singapore’s first Mandarin physical theatre musical with Jacklyn Kuah. The story follows three siblings and their tumultuous relationship with time (and the lack thereof), staging on 10th and 11th June, at the Blackbox at 42 Waterloo Street.Â
2. Set in the hustle and bustle of modern-day Singapore, TIME tells the story of three siblings whose parents had passed away when they were younger. As they grew older, ambitions and individual desires pulled the trio apart, leaving lost time standing in the way. Devised by a magnetic creative team led by theatre-maker and director Jacklyn Kuah with original compositions by multidisciplinary artist Kailin Yong, this is a heartfelt story that touches on the relationship we have with our inner desires and how fleeting time is as we grapple with shifting family dynamics.Â
3. "'Time and tide wait for no man' is a familiar idiom and time does not stop, pause, slow down or reverse, it is forever moving forward - we cannot control time. Our lives are controlled by time, and ironically humans came up with the concept of measuring time in hopes of controlling it. We are also the ones complaining that we do not have time. This play asks the audience what their relationship is with time," says Kuah who is also joined by co-producer and technical director, Fiona Lim on this production.Â
4. TIME stars multilingual actors Liew Li Ting, Abby Lai Ka Hei, Seow Eng Yi and multidisciplinary artist and co-founder of SainouSpace, Derrick Tay. "First, it was Mitch Albom's The Timekeeper that inspired me to explore the theme of time. Then I came across talks and books by Carlo Rovelli who said, "Time is an illusion: our naive perception of its flow doesn't correspond to physical reality. It is a derived concept; it is not something fundamental." That got me to start researching different concepts of time which became the main anchor of this play," says Kuah.Â
In collaboration with Sainou Space, TIME is brought to life at the Blackbox on 42 Waterloo Street on the 10th and 11th of June 2023 at 8.00pm.
